World renowned Christian apologist and Author, Ravi Zacharias has died, aged 74. His death was announced on the official website of The Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (RZIM) today, just two month after he was diagnosed of a rare form of cancer in his spine.
He had battled the disease with the help of doctors, but his daughter recently announced that no further medical treatments were available.
Ravi Zacharias was born on March 26, 1946 in Madras, India before his family moved to Delhi at a young age, where he grew up. He was said to have been an atheist until the age of 17 after attempting suicide. On the hospital bed, he was presented with a bible by a local Christian worker, who told his mother to read from John 14 to him, and he had been touched and saved by the nineteenth verse of the chapter.
By the time Zacharias was 37-years-old, he preached at the invitation of Billy Graham, to the inaugural International Conference for Itinerant Evangelists in Amerstandam, and founded the Ravi Zacharias International Ministries a year later, with the mission of “helping the thinker believe and the believer think.”
He is said to have preached in more than 70 countries around the world and written over 30 books in his 48-year ministerial career.
