One spectacular discovery has shown that in Pakistan, despite 96% of the country being Muslims, Christianity actually existed in the region a long time ago before Islam came up.
Are you wondering about how we came about this revelation? It is a cross which is said to have been up to 1,200 years old.
According to the Union of Catholic Asian news, it was reported that the cross was discovered in the mountains of Pakistan by a team from the University of Baltistan, Skardu in the Himalayan mountains close to Baltistan.
The cross is said to weigh about three to four tons and about seven feet long.
96% of Pakistani citizens practice Islam, and Christians in Pakistan continually face persecution for their faith in Christ?
Nevertheless, a group of Catholic organization called Caritas Pakistan indicated how happy they are for this discovery.
The executive director of Caritas Pakistan Mansha Noor expressed this joy by saying that “It’s really an incredible news for us all that an ancient cross was seen in Skardu.”
Though there are no Christians in the area this cross was found, but they believe Christians have lived there a long time ago and alongside Christian houses and church buildings.
They also pleaded that international chroniclers should come and make more research about the existence of Christianity in Pakistan so they can come up with accurate information about the cross.
Beatrice Caseau a Byzantine history expert also explained to Barnabus Fund that the cross might be evidence showing that the middle east merchant also came to preach the gospel of Christ to the region.
“Before the arrival of Islam, between fifth and eighth centuries the Persian world came with Christianity to the Indus region and taught them using the Syriac language, though we can’t identify the route they followed, but we know this happened,” Caseau declared.
A Pakistani Christian leader also told the Barnabus fund how this discovery will show the significance of Christianity in Pakistan.
According to him, he believes the discovery will make Christians in the country to grow stronger in their faith knowing that Christianity was already in existence many generations ago before Islam arrived.
He said he looks forward to what the discovery will explain about Christianity in Pakistan.
