Two Republican senators in America, Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley, have asked President Trump to deploy special envoy to Nigeria amidst renewed attacks against Christian communities in the country.
According to CBN, the Iowa senators in a recent letter sent to President Trump, about 40,000 deaths have been caused by the Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram.
In recent times, and since the turn of the year, attacks from the Fulani herdsmen on Christian communities in the country have also been on the increase, as well as kidnaps and destruction of houses and places of worship.
The Lockdown imposed by the Government to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, did little or nothing to repel these attacks.
According to Intersociety Advocacy News, in the first five months of 2020 alone, about 620 Christians have been killed by Nigerian Jihadist and there are reports of a State aided genocide in Southern Kaduna
The International Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law (LSCLRL), a nongovernmental organization had also reported that, “the atrocities against Christians have gone unchecked and risen to alarming apogee in Nigeria, with the country’s security forces and concerned political actors looking the other way or colluding with the Jihadists.”
